Did God create sin?

"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’” (John 14:6).

"When you are tempted, you shouldn’t say, ‘God is tempting me.’ God can’t be tempted by evil. And he doesn’t tempt anyone” (James 1:13).

"Everyone has sinned. No one measures up to God’s glory” (Romans 3:23).

No, God did not create sin.

God made us and loves us too much to create sin or want us to sin. So where did sin come from?

God made Adam and Eve, the very first people, and He gave them a free will—meaning they could choose to obey God or not. God told Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit of a certain tree. They didn’t have to sin, but they disobeyed God anyway.

God did not make Adam and Eve sin—they chose to. The devil, who took on the form of a serpent, tricked Adam and Eve (see Genesis 3:4–5), but Adam and Eve are the ones who picked the fruit from the tree and ate it. Because of this, sin came into the world: "Sin entered the world because one man sinned. And death came because of sin. Everyone sinned, so death came to all people" (Romans 5:12).

Fortunately, God sent His Son, Jesus, to die as a sacrifice for our sins so we can be forgiven. The most important thing is that you believe in Jesus, because believing in Him and what He did for us is the only way we can be forgiven of our sins and one day live with Him in heaven.
