What was the first sin?

"You said in your heart, 'I will go up to the heavens. I’ll raise my throne above the stars of God. I’ll sit as king on the mountain where the gods meet. I’ll set up my throne on the highest slopes of Mount Zaphon. I will rise above the tops of the clouds. I’ll make myself like the Most High God.' But now you have been brought down to the place of the dead. You have been thrown into the deepest part of the pit" (Isaiah 14:13-15).

"Everyone has sinned. No one measures up to God’s glory" (Romans 3:23).

"When you sin, the pay you get is death. But God gives you the gift of eternal life. That’s because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done" (Romans 6:23).

The first sin was committed by Satan.

Adam and Eve were the first humans to sin, but Satan was the first angel to sin. Satan was originally a high-ranking angel and he wanted to become God, so he sinned against God and took many demons with him (Isaiah 14:12). God cast Satan and his demons out of heaven because of their sin. Satan and his demons chose to disobey God and sin against Him.

Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, which caused the fall of mankind. All people are now born into sin and have a sinful nature. By believing in Jesus, we can be forgiven of our sin and receive eternal life. God can forgive any sin—no matter how bad.
