What are names of angels in the Bible?

"The angel answered, 'I am Gabriel. I serve God. I have been sent to speak to you [Zechariah] and to tell you this good news'" (Luke 1:19).

"There was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon [Satan]. And the dragon and his angels fought back" (Revelation 12:7).

"The God who gives peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you" (Romans 16:20).

"Their king was the angel of the Abyss. In the Hebrew language his name is Abaddon. In Greek it is Apollyon" (Revelation 9:11).

Although there are many angels in God’s service, there are only four angels who are named in the Bible.

Angels are powerful spiritual beings God created to do work in heaven and on earth. Gabriel, Michael, Lucifer, and Apollyon are some names of angels we read about in the Bible.

Gabriel is an angel who visited Zechariah in the temple to tell him that his wife would soon have a baby named John. Gabriel also told both Mary and Joseph that Mary would give birth to Jesus.

Michael is an angel who is called an "archangel," which means he is in charge of other angels in heaven. There may be other archangels. The Bible tells us about Michael fighting in battles against the fallen angels—those who sinned against God and became demons. The book of Daniel tells us Michael fought against the demonic "prince of the Persian kingdom" to help Gabriel reach Daniel and talk to him.

Lucifer—also called Satan—was a beautiful angel of God until he rebelled and was thrown out of heaven. He is called a "fallen angel" because he fell from heaven. Lucifer was full of pride. He wanted the other angels to worship him instead of God. Lucifer (Satan) hates God and he is still trying to turn people away from God by using many tricks and schemes.

Apollyon (also called Abaddon) is another fallen angel who leads demons. Just like Lucifer, he is one of God’s enemies. We read about him in the book of Revelation.
