Why do I feel bad when I have done something wrong?

"My guilt has become too much for me. It is a load too heavy to carry" (Psalm 38:4).

"But God is faithful and fair. If we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins. He will forgive every wrong thing we have done. He will make us pure" (1 John 1:9).

Everyone has feelings of right and wrong, but why do we feel bad when we do something wrong? This is known as being convicted of sin. We feel badly because we have done something that is against what we know is right.

The apostle Peter felt this when he said he did not know Jesus. After the third time, he cried because he knew he had done something wrong (Matthew 26:75).

David also felt bad after doing wrong things. In Psalm 38:4 he said, "My guilt has become too much for me. It is a load too heavy to carry." He admitted his sin to God and asked God to forgive him. God also wants us to repent when we do wrong things.

If the wrong thing you have done is against someone else, it is also good to ask the other person to forgive us. And if someone does a wrong thing to us, we also need to forgive them, just like God has forgiven us.
