Is it wrong to be late?

"Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others. It does not brag. It is not proud. It does not dishonor other people. It does not look out for its own interests. It does not easily become angry. It does not keep track of other people’s wrongs. Love is not happy with evil. But it is full of joy when the truth is spoken. It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up" (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).

"Don’t do anything only to get ahead. Don’t do it because you are proud. Instead, be humble. Value others more than yourselves" (Philippians 2:3).

"If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone and doesn’t find fault" (James 1:5).

The Bible doesn’t say "You shall not be late," but being late can show a lack of love for others. It can also come across as rude and selfish.

Most of us are late at some point in our lives. Maybe we have been late for school or a playtime with a friend. Being late occasionally is understandable. However, if we are consistently late, that can show we don’t really care about the person or the event. It can hurt others when we are late for their birthday party or a special event they have planned.

We are called to display Jesus’ love in our actions. In everything we do, we need to bring glory to God (Colossians 3:23). Instead of being late, we need to make an effort to be on time. By being on time, it will help our family and loved ones know they matter to us. Even if being late is a chronic issue for us, we can start making the changes today and ask God for help.
