What is the worst sin?

"When you sin, the pay you get is death. But God gives you the gift of eternal life. That’s because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done" (Romans 6:23).

"God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world. He sent his Son to save the world through him" (John 3:17).

"Here is a saying that you can trust. It should be accepted completely. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. And I am the worst sinner of all" (1 Timothy 1:15).

All sins are sin to God, but they may have different consequences.

All sin, no matter how small, is against God. If we hate someone, lie, cheat, steal, or commit murder, all sin is equally sinful against God (Romans 6:23). You may think, “Well, all I said was a little white lie.” To God, that lie is still sin.

God hates all sin, but He also forgives all sin. The love God has for us far exceeds all of our sins. When we confess our sins to God, He forgives us. In fact, our sins were forgiven on the cross! We will all sin because we have a sinful nature, but we are no longer slaves to sin. We are now free in Christ (Galatians 5:1).

Even though all sin is evil in God’s eyes, the consequences of sin may be different. For example, if you punch someone at recess, you may get in a lot of trouble or expelled from school. But if you think a bad thought about someone, you may not have any consequences for that sin. Each of these examples are sin, but they have different penalties.
