My parents want me to dress modestly. What does that mean?
"Don't you know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit? The Spirit is in you, and you have received the Spirit from God. You do not belong to yourselves. Christ has paid the price for you. So use your bodies in a way that honors God" (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).
"...your beauty comes from inside you. It is the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. Beauty like this doesn’t fade away. God places great value on it" (1 Peter 3:4).
When someone dresses modestly, it means they dress in a way that doesn’t show too much of their body.God made our bodies to be beautiful, and each person looks different. But there are parts of our bodies that are private. It’s important to keep parts of our bodies covered, not because there’s something wrong with our bodies, but because our bodies deserve protection and privacy. Clothes are a great way to show our personality through the colors and styles we wear, but people won’t be able to think about who we really are if we wear clothing that shows too much of our bodies. Your parents know this, and so they protect you by telling you to dress modestly.
God doesn’t care what we look like on the outside. He looks inside us at who we are. 1 Samuel 16:7 says, "...The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outside of a person. But the Lord looks at what is in the heart." So when you get dressed in the morning, think about showing others the person God made you to be inside—your kindness, sense of fun, joy, or love of colors—and not about showing off your body.
