How did sin start?

"The LORD God gave the man a command. He said, 'You can eat the fruit of any tree that is in the garden. But you must not eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you do, you can be sure that you will die'" (Genesis 2:16–17).

"One man’s sin brought guilt to all people. So also one right act made all people right with God. And all who are right with God will live" (Romans 5:18).

"When you sin, the pay you get is death. But God gives you the gift of eternal life because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done" (Romans 6:23).

Sin began on earth when Adam and Eve disobeyed God.

God created the world perfect, without any evil or sin. But one of God's angels rebelled against God and became Satan. Satan disguised himself as a serpent and tempted the first people, Adam and Eve, to eat the fruit God had told them not to eat. He told them they’d be wise like God if they ate it.

When Adam and Eve ate the fruit, they sinned against God. Their disobedience brought death into the world, because death is the punishment for sin. The rest of the world became full of death and sin too. So now, sinning comes naturally to us. But God made one way for us to be saved from sin and eternal death in hell.
