What does the Bible say about selfishness?
"Make me want to follow your covenant laws instead of wanting to gain things only for myself" (Psalm 119:36).
"Don’t do anything only to get ahead. Don’t do it because you are proud. Instead, be humble. Value others more than yourselves. None of you should look out just for your own good. Each of you should also look out for the good of others" (Philippians 2:3-4).

The Bible says selfishness is a sin.The Bible teaches the exact opposite of selfishness. God wants us to value others above ourselves (Philippians 2:3-4). Being selfish means you always put yourself first. Due to our sinful nature, we are inherently selfish. It is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that we can stop being selfish. We have to be intentional about placing others' interests above our own.
We can learn to not be selfish by following Jesus’ example. Jesus is literally God in the flesh. Despite being God, Jesus humbled Himself to become a man to die for our sins (Philippians 2). In the same way, we need to practice being humble. We should always look to the interest of others first. It makes God happy when we choose to be humble rather than selfish.
The Bible tells us not to think too highly of ourselves (Romans 12:3). Selfishness causes us to think we are better than others or that our opinion matters more than someone else’s. All people are equal. No person is better than another person. God wants you to be kind to others and value others above yourself. It can be challenging to put others first, but it is worth it. You can shine brightly for Christ by being kind, compassionate, and helpful to others.
