Why is it wrong to complain when my mom or dad asks me to do something?

"Do everything without finding fault or arguing" (Philippians 2:14).

"Children, obey your parents as believers in the Lord. Obey them because it's the right thing to do. Scripture says, 'Honor your father and mother.' That is the first commandment that has a promise. 'Then things will go well with you. You will live a long time on the earth'" (Ephesians 6:1-3).

Kids, God wants us to honor our parents with a good attitude.

In the Bible, God commands us to honor our parents. That means to obey them in a respectful, cheerful way, without complaining or arguing. You should have a good attitude even if you disagree with what your mom or dad wants you to do. You can let your parents know how you're feeling about something by using words that are not hurtful or complaints. Still, you should be respectful of their final decision.

Parents aren't perfect, but God still commands you to obey and honor them. Your parents work hard to do what's best for you, and they love you. How fun is it to be around someone who complains? Instead of complaining when you don't get your way, be thankful for what your parents do for you. If you're thankful and obedient, your home will be a much happier place. Honoring your parents this way pleases God.
