How can I stop being shy?

"God didn’t give us a spirit that makes us weak and fearful. He gave us a spirit that gives us power and love..." (2 Timothy 1:7).

"But let us give thanks to God! He wins the battle for us because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done" (1 Corinthians 15:57).

Being shy isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but God can help you to stop being afraid of other people.

One way to stop being so shy is to ask God to help you be brave each time you think about it. Take a look at what the Lord told Joshua, who didn't think he was able to lead God’s people: "...Be strong and brave. Do not be terrified. Do not lose hope. I am the Lord your God. I will be with you everywhere you go" (Joshua 1:9). Another great verse is: "So do not be afraid. I am with you. Do not be terrified. I am your God. I will make you strong and help you..." (Isaiah 41:10). If you will memorize one of those verses and believe it, then you can think about it whenever you are feeling shy.

If you don't know for sure that you belong to God’s forever family, read the following verses, and then you can make this all-important decision to follow Him from your heart: John 3:16; Romans 3:23; 5:8; 6:23; 10:9-10; John 1:12–13. Jesus died on the cross to take your punishment for sin (anything we think, say, or do that breaks God's laws). He was buried and rose from the dead three days later. If you believe that in your heart (and agree with the verses above), you can tell Him you want Him to be your Savior and Lord. He will make you His child, and promises: "I will never leave you. I will never desert you" (Hebrews 13:5b).

Thank the Lord for His free gift of eternal life! He also gives you the privilege to pray anytime, anywhere, and about anything. His Holy Spirit will be in you to give you victory over being shy.
