What is sanctification?
"God is the God who gives peace. May he make you holy through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept free from blame. May you be without blame from now until our Lord Jesus Christ comes" (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
"The one who chose you is holy. So you should be holy in all that you do..." (1 Peter 1:15).
Sanctification is when someone is made holy and free from sin.Jesus declares us righteous (sinless) when we place our faith in Jesus’ death for us on the cross; this is called justification. Then, after that, we continue to show that we believe in Him by doing good works. These things are a part of our "sanctification," the time when God continues to work in our hearts to change us and make us more like Jesus. It is the time when He makes us more holy. He helps us start to sin less and less and to want to please Him more and more.
The good works we do while God continues to sanctify us don’t save us from our sins—only our faith in Jesus saves us. But sanctification is an important part of our lives because it glorifies God and shows us and others that Jesus is changing us and helping us become who He wants us to be.
