Why does God love people?
"We know what love is because Jesus Christ gave his life for us" (1 John 3:16a).
"But here is how God has shown his love for us. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. The blood of Christ has made us right with God" (Romans 5:8–9a).
God is love.God doesn't only love us when we're good and nice to others. Although sin displeases Him, God still loves us even when we sin—thinking and saying and doing bad things. We don't deserve His love! God loves us because He has decided to love us.
But there's a problem. God is a holy, perfect God, so no one with sin can be close to God or come to His home in heaven. We each have dishonored and displeased God by sinning. Because God loves sinners so much, He sent His own Son Jesus to take the punishment for their sin. If we turn from sin to trust and follow Jesus, God will forgive our sins. What great love!
