Householder:
hous'-hol-der (oikodespotes): The word occurs in Mt 13:27,52; 20:1; 21:33, for the master or owner of a "household," i.e. of servants ([@douloi). The Greek word emphasizes the authority of the master.
Householder:
"a master of a house" (oikos, "a house," despotes, "a master"), is rendered "master of the house" in Mat 10:25; Luk 13:25; 14:21, where the context shows that the authority of the "householder" is stressed; in Mat 24:43; Luk 12:39, the RV "master of the house" (AV, "goodman of the house," does not give the exact meaning); "householder" is the rendering in both versions in Mat 13:27, 52; 20:1; 21:33; so the RV in Mat 20:11 (for AV, "goodman of the house"); both have "goodman of the house" in Mar 14:14; in Luk 22:11, "goodman."
See GOODMAN.
Householder:
corresponding to A, "to rule a house," is used in 1Ti 5:14, RV, "rule the household" (AV, "guide the house").
