Exceed; Exceeding; Exceedingly:
ek-sed': The verb is found in other than its present sense in Job 36:9 the King James Version, "They have exceeded" the (Revised Version (British and American)) "behaved themselves proudly"); 1Sa 20:41, "They.... wept.... until David exceeded" (the King James Version and the Revised Version (British and American)). In both these passages the idea is that of going too far, beyond proper bounds (Hebrew, respectively, gabhar, "be strong" (in the Hithpael); gadhal, "be great" (in the Hiphil). "Exceeding" (as an adverb with adjectives and rarely as an adjective) and "exceedingly" occur often as representing various expressions for the superlative in Hebrew and Greek.
