Try, Tried:

is rendered "to try" in the AV in 1Cr 3:13; 1Th 2:4; 1Pe 1:7; 1Jo 4:1: see PROVE, No. 1.

Try, Tried:

is rendered "to try" in Hbr 11:17; Rev 2:2, 10; 3:10. In Act 16:7 it is rendered "assayed;" in Act 24:6, RV, "assayed" (AV, "hath gone about"): see GO, Note (2) (b).

Notes:

(1) In Rev 3:18, AV, puroo, in the Passive Voice, "to be purified by fire" (RV, "refined"), is rendered "tried."

(3) For dokimos, Jam 1:12, AV, "tried," see APPROVED.

(4) In 1Pe 4:12, AV, the phrase pros peirasmon, lit., "for trial," i.e., "for testing," is rendered "to try (you)," RV, "to prove (you)."
