Quit [I,K,V] Bible Dictionaries

Dictionaries :: Quit

International Standard Bible Encyclopaedia

Quit:

kwit: Same derivation as "quiet," so that "to be quit" (Ex 21:19,28; Jos 2:20 the King James Version) is "to be relieved of responsibility," naqah, naqi, "guiltless" (so the Revised Version (British and American) Jos 2:20). Hence, "to quit one's self" means "to be freed by discharging a duty." The phrase in English Versions of the Bible, however, is a gloss for in 1Sa 4:9 it is used for hayah, "to be," while in 1Co 16:13 andrizomai, means "to behave like a man."

King James Dictionary

Quit: Blameless; Innocent.

And if men strive together, and one smite another with a stone, or with his fist, and he die not, but keepeth his bed: If he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be QUIT: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed. (Exodus 21:18-19)
