freed by Jehovah. (1.) The head of the twenty-third division of the priestly order (1Ch 24:18).
(2.) A son of Shemaiah, and one of the courtiers to whom Jeremiah's first roll of prophecy was read (Jer 36:12).
(3.) The head of one of the bands of exiles that returned under Zerubbabel to Jerusalem (Ezr 2:60; Neh 7:62).

(4.) Son of Shemaiah, one of the "princes" about the court of Jehoiakim (Jeremiah 36:12; 36:25). (B.C. 604)
Dalan:
da'-lan (Dalan; the King James Version Ladan): Head of a family that returned to Jerusalem, but which "could shew neither their families, nor their stock, how they were of Israel" (1 Esdras 5:37); corresponds to Delaiah (Ezr 2:60). Another reading is "Asan."
