1Strong's Number: g3784Greek: opheiloBound (To Be):
"to owe, whether of a debt or any obligation," is translated "we are bound," in 2Th 1:3; 2:13 (the Apostle expressing his obligation to give thanks for his readers).
See BEHOVE.
Note: Dei, it is necessary (for which see MUST), expresses, not the obligation (as does opheilo) but the certainty or inevitableness of what is bound to happen, e.g., Jhn 3:15, "must be lifted up" (i.e., inevitably), and Act 4:12, "wherein we must be saved" (i.e., there is a certainty of salvation).
2Strong's Number: g4029Greek: perikeimaiBound (To Be):
Perikeimai lit., "to lie around" (peri, "around," keimai, "to lie"), "to be compassed," is used of binding fetters around a person, Act 28:20; in Mar 9:42; Luk 17:2, to hang about a person's neck; in Hbr 5:2, to compass about, metaphorically of infirmities; in Hbr 12:1, of those who have witness borne to their faith.
See COMPASS, HANG.
Note: For "bound" in Act 22:5; 24:27, see BIND, No. 1; for Act 22:25, AV, see BIND, No. 7; for Luk 8:29, see BIND, No. 6.
